RCT FAQ’S

Q1. What is Root Canal Treatment..?

A1. RCT is done with the aid of ADVANCED AUTOMATED INSTRUMENTATION technology as follows:

  • Digital Root Canal Assessment using Digital Imaging and Calibration
  • Digital Root Length Measurement using Electronic Apex Locator
  • Automated Root Canal Preparation using Endo motor and Rotary Files
  • Mechanised Capsule core filling.
  • CAD – CAM fabricated Crowns (CAPS)

Q2. Is RCT very painful..?

A2. No. With Suitable pre-medication and today’s available techniques and gadgetry, RCT is a painless procedure, especially if done by an ENDODONTIST.

Q3. Do all cavities require RCT ?

A3. No. Cavities within the crown – enamel and dentin – just need a filling. Only if the cavity extends deep into the root RCT is required.

Q4. How do I know when RCT is required ?

A4. Mostly patients experience pain when decay involves the nerve tissue needing RCT. However, in a few cases like trauma and wearing of tooth, pain may not be present, but still RCT may be needed.

Q5. Do RCT require multiple visits ?

A5. No. RCT involves 3 basic steps – Access, Cleaning & Shaping, and Filling. With Advanced Automated Instrumentation, RCT can be completed in 1-2 visits. However, in few situations like abscess etc. RCT may need more visits.

Q6. Is RCT very expensive.?

A6. The only alternative for RCT is extraction. Compared to the cost of replacing the extracted natural tooth, RCT is much more economical.

Q7. Is a CAP (Crown) needed after RCT.?

A7. Mostly YES. After RCT, in most situation tooth should be CAPPED in order to avoid fracture and to function normally.

Q8. Can patients suffering from ailments like Diabetes, BP, Heart problems, Bleeding problems etc..undergo RCT.

A8. There are NO specific contraindications for RCT. With suitable pre-medication, RCT can be successfully carried out in all conditions safely.

Q9. How long will my RCT treated tooth last?

A9. If done properly and restored appropriately, RCT treated teeth usually lasts as long as natural teeth.
